DISTANCE
Manage distance between you and the threat. whether its a punch or a kick, a headbutt, knee or an elbow, a stab or a slash, a bat or a knife, a push or a pull, a clinch or a takedown, a guard pass or a guard pull. distance management plays a crucial rule in the outcome.

CONNECTION
Connection is what links us to the ground, our opponent and any other surface, such as a wall or another solid object. We must forge a connection or bridge to our opponent or floor with our hands, arms, legs, feet, head, shoulders, hips in order to establish our base. and our ability to feel our opponents intentions or to prevent them from freely acting on those intentions.

TIMING
The choice, judgement or control of when something should be done. Missed opportunity can result in being hit, thrown, slammed, trapped or simply outmaneuvered. This is why timing plays an intricate part in self defence.

BASE
Base would be defined as a conceptual structure or entity on which something draws or depends. In our case, we speak of our bodies structure, how we can rely on it in relation to our opponents threat.

WEIGHT
Weight distribution is how we maintain our base and avoid being thrown or reversed from top positions or it can prevent our opponent from progressing their top/dominant position

CENTERLINE
Centerliine or middle point is what allows us to encounter or bridge anything coming our way. If you are extreme in any direction you are easily countered. This is why the centerline keeps us safe and able to react or be pro-active, survive or attack based on timing and position.
